Sergio Ramos has been fined by the FMF after openly criticizing refereeing decisions in last weekend’s clash against Santos Laguna. Monterrey was informed of the ruling earlier this week. The Spanish veteran had two goals disallowed during the Liga MX Apertura 2025 match, one correctly for offside and another that sparked controversy.

Ramos’ complaints came after two disallowed goals. The first was correctly ruled out for offside, but the second sparked controversy, as there seemed to be neither a foul nor an offside by Monterrey – a decision that left the former Real Madrid star furious.

Following the game, Ramos took to social media to vent his frustration at referee Luis Fernando Santander, posting that incidents like this “only happen in this league.”
“What a shameful foul he called. Then I get wrestled in corners and they say it’s just part of the game… Today’s call was a joke. This only happens here in this league,” Ramos posted.

The Rayados captain also updated fans after taking a hard tackle late in the match from Anthony Lozano, which left him with a cut above his eye.
“To everyone asking, thanks a lot – I’m fine. Four stitches on the eyebrow and another mark for the memories. I don’t want a life without scars,” Ramos wrote.
