Manchester City are aware of the release clause that would allow them to replace Kevin De Bruyne with Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

According to UOL in Brazil, Guimaraes is available for £100 million this summer, a fee City are considering but feel is a little too high. It was reported last summer that the midfielder's release clause expired in 2024 but there is now a suggestion that it is still in play.

De Bruyne announced that he will exit City at the end of the season last week, with the club now searching for replacements. Pep Guardiola is said to be "pleased" by Guimaraes and would welcome the chance to sign him ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

City's search for a De Bruyne replacement has also seen them considering signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. It would take a lot of money to sign either the German or Guimaraes, who is a cult hero at Newcastle, particularly after his starring role in their Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool in March.
