According to The Mirror, Manchester United have revived their interest in Diego Godin – whom they missed out on in the summer – as his current contract with Atletico Madrid is set to expire at the end of the season.
What’s the word?
As per the aforementioned report, Atletico Madrid are desperate to retain the services of the talismanic centre-back, but the Red Devils are watching closely for any opportunity to pounce for the 32-year-old’s signature.
Over the years in La Liga, the veteran 6ft 2in Uruguayan has proven himself to be one of the finest defenders in European football and he could likely still have an impact in the Premier League.

However, the Red Devils should not be tempted into launching another bid for his services in the upcoming January transfer window.
No time for a stop-gap solution
Jose Mourinho undoubtedly needs to improve United’s defence – his side’s woeful record at the back so far this season is evidence enough of that. However, United are in need of a systematic overhaul, not a stop-gap solution.
United need to completely rebuild their defence, with Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo all short of the required quality, and Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof still yet to prove that they have what it takes to make it at Old Trafford.
In terms of constructing a new-look defensive contingent, Mourinho must target younger players to build with and around, rather than the ageing Godin.
What do you think, United fans – would Godin be a wise winter addition?
