Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club will not be signing Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar.
The North London outfit have been linked with a swoop for the 21-year-old all summer, but recently, talk quietened down.
The Metro claimed that Arsenal had two bids rejected from the French outfit, and even though Lemar is said to be keen on getting a deal done, it looks impossible now.
Monaco have been busy in the transfer market, but mainly because they have sold a number of players, including Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City, as well as Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea.
During Wenger’s press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool, the Frenchman told reporters:
“It’s dead. Monaco have closed the door definitely because there are ongoing cases with Mbappe and Fabinho. They lost Mendy, Silva and Bakayoko so Monaco are at the stage where they have closed the door. We have the numbers and quality to deal with that.”
It is a blow to Arsenal, who have managed to bring in just two new players this summer in the form of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
After hearing the news, the Gunners’ faithful took to Twitter to give their reactions.
