On Monday, Leeds United’s official Twitter account posted a birthday message to Howard Wilkinson, who turned 74 at the start of the week.
Wilkinson managed Leeds between 1988 and 1996, delivering the Second Division title, First Division title and Charity Shield during his time at the club.
Wilkinson went on to take charge of the England national team on a caretaker basis, before short spells at Sunderland and Shanghai Shenhua in the latter stages of his career.
There is no question that the now 74-year-old is still regarded as a legend at Leeds, and it was not a surprise when so many took to Twitter to hail the Sheffield-born manager.
It was only 16 years ago that Leeds reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, but they are currently struggling to get out of the Championship.
It has been a difficult few years for Leeds, but the supporters have stayed with the club, and it will surely not be too long until they reach the top flight of English football once again.
Legends of the club are always remembered, however, and Wilkinson was the subject of plenty of praise at the start of this week.
