Ligue 1 has hit out at claims it is behind fake social media accounts hyping the division ahead of the new 2024-25 campaign.

Ligue de Football Professionnel, the body that organises and administers Ligue 1, has put out a statement denying anything to do with "obvious fake accounts" on social media that are suspiciously promoting the competition.

Having lost its two biggest stars, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, in 2023 and 2024 respectively, Ligue 1's early summer was also dominated by reported struggles to find a suitable TV deal. Eventually, a contract worth €500 million (£428m/$546m) per year was signed with DAZN and beIN Sports, but it hasn't been an easy ride for the marketability of French football.
WHAT THE LFP SAID
A statement read: "Following the gross rumours that have gained momentum in recent hours regarding posts on social networks coming from obvious fake accounts of dubious consistency, the Professional Football League wishes to categorically deny the accusations suggesting that it is at the origin of this masquerade. The LFP, alongside the clubs, its official broadcasters and its partners, remains fully focused on preparing for the start of a 2024/2025 season that all football fans are eagerly awaiting and which promises to be exciting."

Ligue 1's 2024-25 campaign kicks off next Friday night, August 16, when reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain travel north to face Le Havre.
The likes of Marseille, Monaco and Lille are all in action the following day.
