Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to share their opinion on sporting director Michael Edwards, after Paul Joyce’s latest story for The Times uncovered the finer details behind the transfer guru’s dealings.
Edwards was promoted to the role back in November 2016 and has since masterminded the signings of huge names such as Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as well as the club-record £75m capture of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton – he also pushed Jurgen Klopp to sign Mohamed Salah when he preferred Julian Brandt.
The former analyst at Portsmouth is particularly shrewd in his business, ensuring that he tied Keita down in advance before loaning him back to RB Leipzig to fend off the competition, whilst he managed to slip a surcharge in Philippe Coutinho’s £142m move to Barcelona – the Spanish champions will have to pay a £100m premium on any other player they wish to sign from the Reds.
As a result of that, Liverpool fans are obviously overjoyed with their sporting director, and have taken to Twitter to commend him…
