Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Robbie Savage claimed that Jadon Sancho would get in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI over Mohamed Salah next season if he signed for the European champions.
The ex-Derby midfielder was speaking on BBC Radio 606 when he made the bold statement while on a call with a Liverpool fan, and it is one that has sparked a huge reaction from the club’s supporters on Twitter.
The Borussia Dortmund star has lit up Europe once again this season with 17 goals and 19 assists in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit, having been involved in an eye-catching 32 goals last term.
However, dropping Salah would be downright ludicrous and would also be incredibly surprising if Klopp did actually do it.
After the Egypt international netted against Bournemouth on Saturday, he took his Premier League tally for the Reds to 70 goals in 100 appearances, which is quite frankly an absurd record.
As a result, a number of Liverpool fans on Twitter have leapt to the defence of the former Chelsea forward.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying…
To kick off the reaction, two fans both called Savage’s comments “embarrassing” while “delusional” and “stupid” were also used to describe the pundit’s words.
It truly is hard to argue with these adjectives, as Salah is arguably amongst Europe’s leading players and is imperative to the high-energy, intense way in which Klopp likes to set up his sides.
That isn’t to say that Sancho is not also an incredible player – his goal involvements speak volumes – but there is no way that the Egyptian should be dropped for any player barring Lionel Messi, perhaps.
Elsewhere, another fan argued that even Savage doesn’t believe what he is saying, and that the BBC pundit is only trying to formulate a juicy headline – even if his comments are bizarre, he has certainly achieved just that.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Another wanted to congratulate the way in which the caller responds to Savage’s claim – the supporter handled the situation very well, refusing to react negatively to the wild statement and instead speaking calmly on why he disagrees.
In other news, this 24-year-old Liverpool target is miles ahead of Roberto Firmino in one key area…
