Ribery was not having that, having seen his claims to the Ballon d’Or in 2013 – after winning five trophies at Bayern Munich, including the European Cup – overlooked in favour of free-scoring superstars Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Ribery posted on social media in response to Ronaldo’s claim that continental glory should be a determining factor in any vote: “So you NEED to win the Champions League to win the Ballon d'Or?” He accompanied said post with three laughing emojis.
