Sunderland have slowly begun to put together a consistent string of results. Steve Bruce has demanded a higher level of performance from his players on a regular basis since their shock win at Chelsea two weeks ago, and the demands are being answered.
Danny Welbeck is looking like the loan signing of the season, and should he continue his run of form, an early return to Old Trafford could well be on the cards.
Wolves, like West Ham, have to take something from this game. Mick McCarthy now knows he is under some serious pressure to grind out a result. Last weekend’s defeat to Blackpool was a huge blow for a team that seems intent on conceding goals at the worst possible moments. McCarthy welcomes a club that once sat in a similar position to his current side when the Irishman was in charge at the Stadium of Light- he will expect no favours.
Should Sunderland win they will emerge as genuine contenders for a European berth. Similar sentiments were expressed last season with little in the way of long-term proof that they could stay the course, however, this year the Black Cats appear to made of stronger stuff.
Prediction: 1-2
